Baby Mine…

Many years ago, Mama and I went to see Dumbo at the movies.  There is a scene where Dumbo’s Mama got thrown in a cage (which I think was a train car) because she got real upset while protecting Dumbo.  This made Dumbo real sad, and he went to visit her.  She can only touch him through the bars with her trunk, so she picks him up and rocks him while a precious lullaby is playing.  I remember looking up at Mama in the movies, and we were both crying and we giggled at our emotions.  One day I grew up and had babies of my own.  I heard a beautiful song when my first baby was tiny, so I started singing it to her as her lullaby to sleep.  When she was about three, we watched Dumbo together, and little did I know… in the scene where Dumbo’s mother was rocking him to sleep with her trunk was the same song I was singing to my little girl every night.  Ever since then, every time I hear (or sing) that song, or see a baby elephant with its mother… I think of me and Mama.  My best friend since I got here.

I always wanted to grow up and be just like my Mama… a mama like her, a wife like her, a friend like her.  I always thought she was the greatest, but it wasn’t until I grew up and heard how other mothers were that I found out how very blessed I have been.  She has always been there for me and always been so wise and true.  She is an amazing example of what God intended a “helpmeet” to be for their husband.  She is wonderful… thank you God, thank you Mama,

I love you,

Laura
